Dear Maker Families,
We are pleased to be back from break and excited that our 11th graders will begin the college process! The College Office, along with advisory leads, have put together an intensive college curriculum for 11th graders. Students will use Monday, Tuesday, and Fridays in advisory to learn about different types of colleges, NY state university systems (CUNY and SUNY), financial aid, scholarships, Scoir, and how to become a stronger candidate for admissions offices.
At the end of junior year, students are expected to submit their postsecondary portfolio on Friday, June 7th, which will consist of:
1) College List (10+ colleges based on academic, financial and social fit)
2) Brag Sheets (to request letters of recommendation from 2 teachers and 1 counselor)
3) First Draft of their College Essay/Personal Statement 4) First Draft of their Resume
5) Family Financial Intake Form (based on your 2023 taxes)
6) Notes and Next Steps from their 1 on 1 meeting with their college advisor
Each junior should end the school year with a summer plan, next steps, and better understanding of what their senior year will look like.
