Seniors,
This is a very important week! This is the last week of the 1st marking period of your senior year! Please use this week to finish your 1st marking period strong! Colleges and trade schools look closely at the first half of senior year when viewing your applications.
Next week, CUNY and SUNY applications become free! This week in senior seminar class AND advisory, we will be continuing our SUNY applications. Our goal for our SUNY application to be completed by this Friday, and next week, we just log into the SUNY application and hit submit! We're on track to do that!
*Amanda will also be editing and reviewing each senior's college essay. All will be reviewed by Friday afternoon.
What Seniors Should Be Focusing On This Week:
- Working on SUNY application
- If finished with the SUNY application, they can begin working on the Common Application or build a Trade School List
- Resume and Cover Letter with Melissa
- Attending their 1 on 1 with Amanda in 408
- Final college list should be complete

Upcoming Trips:
FIT Trip with Amanda, Melissa, and Gerry on October 21st:
- Seniors interested in design fields should join this FIT tour. This will be a general tour of FIT, where you will be able to learn about the school, the campus, majors, financial aid and the opportunities and organizations that FIT has to offer!
- This will be our first big bus trip of the year! We will be leaving at 6:15am and will be visiting SUNY New Paltz and then SUNY Dutchess Community College before returning to Maker in the evening. SUNY New Paltz is most well known for their Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Social Sciences, and Business program. Dutchess Community College is a 2-year school that offers many certificate programs and programs you can find in a trade school. Some of their strongest programs are their Computer Information Systems program, Human Services, Education, Business, and Aviation programs, among others. Find the permission slip HERE.
- On our second bus trip of the year, we will be visiting SUNY University at Albany AND Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). SUNY U Albany is one of the most liked SUNY schools with strong programs in Business, Sciences, Social Sciences, Computer Science and Cybersecurity. RPI is well known for their Engineering, Computer Science, Business, and Math programs. Their top majors are Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering. Permission slips will be given out next week.

Deadline Reminders:
- The CUNY Application will be free from October 21st to November 15th. We will be applying together in your Senior Seminar class.
- The SUNY Application is free from October 21st to November 3rd. We will also be completing this in class.
- Early Decision and Early Action applications are due by November 1st at 11:59pm.
Announcements:
- The Early Decision/Early Application clinic will be happening Thursday after school this week.
- If your family has not done so already, please complete and return the Class of 2025 Family Intake Form and return it to the College Office or email it to [email protected]. This form will allow the College Office to determine if a student is eligible for opportunity programs, scholarships, and will aid in helping to build a college list. This intake form along with your 2023 taxes are essential in completing financial aid applications. We strongly encourage every junior family to complete this form and have your child submit it to the College Office.
SAT News:
Maker will offer the SAT for free on Wednesday, October 23rd. All seniors are highly encouraged to re-take the SAT in October.
