College Office Weekly Newsletter: 11/18

Seniors,
   Thank you for coming to Family Financial Aid Night! We're so glad we got to see your families! These next couple of weeks are going to be busy! This week in your senior seminar class with Amanda, you will be creating your FSA ID and HESC accounts which you will use for the FAFSA application and TAP application. Make sure you get to class on time and have your social security number ready! This week, Amanda will also be working with students on the CSS profile and SUNY EOP applications. If you would like to set up an an appointment, please email me or drop by 408.
     Senior families will be emailed later today with the slideshow from Family Financial Aid Night as well as resources for families.
 
This week:
  • Senior Seminar:
    • Creating FSA ID and HESC accounts
    • Mock Job interviews with Melissa
  • Working on EOP applications. Please request a meeting with Amanda or Clint. 
    • To be ready for your meeting, you must have:
      • Submitted a copy of your family's 2023 federal taxes and state taxes to the College Office.
      • If you received Public Assistance, we will need a budget letter indicating the Public Assistance benefits you received
      • If you received Social Security Benefits and/or Supplemental Security Income, we will need a Statement of Benefits which can be found at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount

Career Expo at BMCC on November 20th:
  • Next Wednesday, students who are interested in a trade will be attending the Career Expo at BMCC. Students will explore diverse career paths and post-secondary options. Amanda and Melissa will reach out to selected students who have shown interest in trade school and the workforce.

Deadline Reminders:
  • FAFSA opens on December 1st. We will be completing the student portion of FAFSA in your senior seminar class with Amanda from December 2nd-December 6th
  • Parent appointments with Amanda and Clint will be released in the coming weeks. Parents can sign up for a 30 minute session for help to complete the parent portion of the FAFSA
  • SUNY EOP applications should be submitted before winter break
Announcements:
 
  • If your family has not done so already, please complete and return the Class of 2025 Family Intake Form and return it to the College Office or email it to [email protected]. This form will allow the College Office to determine if a student is eligible for opportunity programs, scholarships, and will aid in helping to build a college list. This intake form along with your 2023 taxes are essential in completing financial aid applications. We strongly encourage every junior family to complete this form and have your child submit it to the College Office.
