College Office Weekly Newsletter: 11/4/24

Seniors,
   These past few weeks have been amazing! So many of you have submitted your CUNY and SUNY applications, breaking our previous application records for early November! Yesterday, the SUNY application free period closed. 88% of senior submitted their SUNY application! We are so proud of you! Some students have begun receiving acceptances to colleges! More will come in the coming weeks and months.
    The CUNY application free period closes next week. Currently, 98% of seniors have submitted their application! We hope to reach 100% by the end of the week.
 
This week:
  • Seniors who are EOP eligible will be scheduled for 1 on 1 meetings to submit their EOP application for SUNY. Those meetings will begin on Wednesday and finish November 22nd. 
    • To be ready for your meeting, you must have:
      • Submitted a copy of your family's 2023 federal taxes and state taxes to the College Office.
      • If you received Public Assistance, we will need a budget letter indicating the Public Assistance benefits you received
      • If you received Social Security Benefits and/or Supplemental Security Income, we will need a Statement of Benefits which can be found at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount 
  • SUNY University at Albany and Rensselaer Polytechnic Trip on Thursday:
    • The trip is almost full. Spots have been held for students who have applied to University at Albany. Please see Amanda in Room 408 for a physical permission slip. We will be leaving at 7am.
  • In Senior Seminar class with Amanda, students will begin working on the Common Application if they are applying to private schools and/or out of state public schools. Other students will begin researching trade schools. With Melissa, you will be doing Mock Interview prep.
 
Upcoming Trips:
 
 
  • On our second bus trip of the year, we will be visiting SUNY University at Albany AND Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). SUNY U Albany is one of the most liked SUNY schools with strong programs in Business, Sciences, Social Sciences, Computer Science and Cybersecurity. RPI is well known for their Engineering, Computer Science, Business, and Math programs. Their top majors are Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering. We will be leaving at 7am. Please see Amanda for a physical permission slip.
 
Hunter College Trip on November 14th:
  • On Thursday, November 14th (the same day as Family Financial Aid Night), 30 students will be visiting Hunter College for an info session and tour. Students who applied to Hunter College will be prioritized. Please find the digital permission slip HERE.
 
Family Financial Aid Night:
  • Please join us on Thursday, November 14th for Financial Aid Night. This night is extremely important because we will be discussing the FAFSA application, which is delayed again this year and different from years past. Although we will be offering both an in-person AND remote option, we highly encourage families to come in person because this can be very confusing. 
  • This event will be catered. To let us know that you are coming, please sign this form.

Deadline Reminders:
  • The CUNY Application will be free from October 21st to November 15th. Students who have not submitted their CUNY application should do so ASAP.
  • Some Early Action applications are due by November 15th at 11:59pm.
 
Announcements:
 
  • If your family has not done so already, please complete and return the Class of 2025 Family Intake Form and return it to the College Office or email it to [email protected]. This form will allow the College Office to determine if a student is eligible for opportunity programs, scholarships, and will aid in helping to build a college list. This intake form along with your 2023 taxes are essential in completing financial aid applications. We strongly encourage every junior family to complete this form and have your child submit it to the College Office.
