Seniors,
This is one of the biggest weeks of the year! This week is CUNY and SUNY applications week! Today, on October 21st, CUNY and SUNY applications become free! Over the past few weeks in senior seminar class, we have worked on your SUNY application and many sections have begun working on their CUNY application. We are in a really good place to submit both applications by the end of Friday!
If all students submit their CUNY and SUNY applications by Friday at 3:40pm, we will have a grade-wide pizza party to celebrate!
Here are the things you NEED to have by tomorrow to submit both applications:
1. Your social security number OR Alien Registration Number
2. OSIS #
3. Family income range from the 2023 tax year
4. Parent legal names, birthdays, and addresses
Here is some information about this week:
- Today, you will be putting the final edits on your college essay and in advisory, you will be adding your college essay to your SUNY application. Please add any remaining information needed (such as adding schools, family information, extracurricular activities, and whether you are EOP eligible) on your SUNY app BUT DO NOT SUBMIT UNTIL YOU HAVE CLASS WITH AMANDA.
- When you have your senior seminar section with Amanda, you will be logging into the SUNY application and submitting your application. We will then open the CUNY application and start and submit it. This application should only take around 15 minutes. Make sure you have your final list of CUNY schools and majors available and when doing the application.
- The SAT will be this Wednesday, October 23rd. All seniors have the opportunity to retake the SAT for free at Maker. This is HIGHLY encouraged.
Upcoming Trips:
- This will be our first big bus trip of the year! We will be leaving at 6:15am and will be visiting SUNY New Paltz and then SUNY Dutchess Community College before returning to Maker in the evening. SUNY New Paltz is most well known for their Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Social Sciences, and Business program. Dutchess Community College is a 2-year school that offers many certificate programs and programs you can find in a trade school. Some of their strongest programs are their Computer Information Systems program, Human Services, Education, Business, and Aviation programs, among others. Find the permission slip HERE.
- On our second bus trip of the year, we will be visiting SUNY University at Albany AND Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). SUNY U Albany is one of the most liked SUNY schools with strong programs in Business, Sciences, Social Sciences, Computer Science and Cybersecurity. RPI is well known for their Engineering, Computer Science, Business, and Math programs. Their top majors are Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering. Permission slips will be given out next week.
Family Financial Aid Night:
- Please join us on Thursday, November 14th for Financial Aid Night. This night is extremely important because we will be discussing the FAFSA application, which is delayed again this year and different from years past. Although we will be offering both an in-person AND remote option, we highly encourage families to come in person because this can be very confusing.
- This event will be catered. To let us know that you are coming, please sign this form.
