Seniors,
Welcome to the first of many weekly newsletters. Please use these newsletters to find what we are up to this week at Maker, deadlines, scholarship and Fly-In Opportunities, events, upcoming college trips, and upcoming college representative visits.

Senior Seminar class:
The College Office will be answering all of the questions posed during the survey in the first week of class. We will also be going over college and career timelines, financial aid, and progress to graduation.

Upcoming Trip:
105 students will be attending the HBCU fair at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) this Friday. We will have 60 timeslots at 11:30-12:30pm at 45 timeslots from 1-2pm. Please find the permission slip here. Please let me know which timeslot your prefer. If you would like a paper copy, please drop by Rm 408 for permission slips.
*Note: Seniors have priority for this trip. If there are still slots open on Wednesday, juniors will be allowed to sign up.

Scholarship Opportunities:

  • The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for students who have demonstrated leadership in their school and/or community. This scholarship prioritize students who come from a low-income household. Deadline: September 15th
  • Niche $25,000 Scholarship is a no-essay, randomized scholarship that takes only a couple of minutes to apply. Deadline: September 30th
  • Be Bold Scholarship is $25,000, no-essay scholarship that will be awarded to the applicant with the boldest profile. Deadline: October 1st

Announcements:

  • Reminder: The College Office has moved to Rm 408 (Venus' old office).

  • Starting today, every Monday after school, in Rm 408, The College Office will be holding an Early Decision/Early Application clinic, where Amanda will help you complete your college applications. You can also come to work on scholarships, help with your college essay, etc. Note: Pizza will be available beginning next week.

  • If your family has not done so already, please complete and return the Class of 2025 Family Intake Form and return it to the College Office or email it to [email protected]. This form will allow the College Office to determine if a student is eligible for opportunity programs, scholarships, and will aid in helping to build a college list. This intake form along with your 2023 taxes are essential in completing financial aid applications. We strongly encourage every junior family to complete this form and have your child submit it to the College Office.

  • Students planning to apply to college through Early Decision or Early Action should let Amanda know ASAP.
