Happy Winter Maker Families!
We’ve had so many magical moments with your children this past month and look forward to the moments of joy to come in the weeks before Winter Break. Some highlights of the past month include watching our students step into an internship with the iHope school where students are developing technology and toys to support students with disabilities, an opening Girls Varsity Basketball game where we won by over 100 points (and no that’s not a typo), our newly elected student body presidents hosted a panel of students sharing around their learning experiences at Maker and how they’ve grown over the years to members of Springpoint and the Barr Foundation, and our partnership with Gotham Park continues to grow, this week bringing in stakeholders from across the community who we look to collaborate with on our hydroponic farm, for which we will cut the ribbon and share thousands of pounds of produce next month! People from near and far are impressed with what Makers are making happen, and we are so grateful to you and them for building our community.
Read the newsletter to get more information about upcoming events including January Regents and test prep available, MLK Jr. Day of Service at Maker, Access VR, Winter PSAL, the upcoming Winter Wonderland Advisory challenge and more!
Warmly,
Amy & The Leadership Team

Apprentices ages 15-24 gather twice a week at one of our programming sites and develop both their leadership and job related skills through guided, collaborative project making. This program begins in Spring semester and youth who successfully complete the program are guaranteed paid summer employment at various Beam sites. New Attendance Notification System
Tardy and absent notifications will be sent daily between 10:30-11AM via ParentSquare. This information is pulled from the system students use to swipe their ID into the building. If a student does not swipe into the building, they will appear absent. If a student needs a replacement ID, they should complete the form via our website [ LINK]. If you have any questions about the message you receive, please email the Attendance Team at [email protected]. You can also call the main office at 212-225-0890 x4172.
Our Farm is Growing!!!
We planted the first seeds in our hydroponic farm on the 2nd floor last week and will have our first harvest in January at our "Flip the Switch" opening ceremony. We will grow over 9,000 pounds of fresh produce every year which will be split between the cafeteria salad bar, free distributions to local community organizations, and weekly distributions to students and families. We will announce the signups and schedule for free produce pickup in January!
Big Apple Awards
Please nominate a teacher today! Nominations are open until January 21st, 2025.
