Dear Maker Families,
Happy fall in full effect! We have greatly enjoyed getting to know your children better over the course of September & are starting to focus on helping them finish Marking Period 1 with strong academic performances.
Our instructional focus this year is on building knowledge for impact. That means we want to prepare our students to learn what skills and content they need to know deeply in order to be successful change agents in the real world.
To support your children in this focus, we recommend you:
- Login to JumpRope with your child (see logistics in email) - Reach out to your child's teachers to ask what they can do to improve their grades - Talk with your children about these questions on a regular basis at home: What are you learning about and why? What are you trying to learn more deeply about (or get better at) and why? Why are you trying to learn more deeply about that?
We look forward to seeing what they learn, create, and grow over the course of this year!
Warmly, Amy
If you have questions about competency-based education, our instructional coach Pri has shared slides about it on the website, and course syllabi are being added to the website as well.

PARENT SQUARE
We are excited to announce that we adopted a new form of school-to-home communication at Urban Assembly Maker Academy called ParentSquare. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with Maker Academy. It provides for Maker staff to share information directly with families.
For even more convenience, download the ParentSquare app (available for free for iOS and Android devices). Have questions? Click the question mark in the top right corner of the desktop version or the Help tab on the app (tap the triple bar icon at the top left) to find answers to most of your questions.
