Hello Maker Families,
I hope this message finds you well. Halloween brought out so much Maker creativity, and it was a joy to see our students' brilliance shine through their imaginative costumes and ideas. Whenever I need a reminder of hope in these uncertain times, I look to their vision and spirit—it’s truly inspiring. Thank you for entrusting us with your students every day, and for sharing in our recent Family Learning Walk. Your insights are invaluable to us, and we look forward to your continued input at next month’s walk. Please also keep an eye out for details on our upcoming Homecoming Potluck, with ways to volunteer and get involved in building our school community. As we dive further into Marking Period 2, you’ll hear more from us about both support and enrichment opportunities. We’re committed to ensuring every student finds the resources they need to grow. In this newsletter, you’ll find information about lunchtime and after-school tutoring, particularly beneficial for students who need additional support or who may have struggled in the first marking period. This week, students will also begin their “What I Need” (WIN) class—a dedicated time to focus on students’ interests as well as personalized goals and growth. You’ll find some conversation starters in the newsletter to help you connect with your students about their progress in WIN.
We’re also preparing for Student-Led Conferences on November 21 and 22, and Advisors will be in touch soon to help you schedule a time. These conferences are a powerful way for students to reflect on their learning, set goals, and build ownership of their journey. We don’t know what the next months will bring politically. We do know that through every new chapter, we are committed to helping students navigate and make sense of the world around them. We’re teaching them to think critically, to assess the validity of information they encounter, and to recognize the importance of truth and integrity, especially as they approach voting age and begin shaping the world around them. In a time when information is vast and varied, we hope and believe truth will prevail—and we’re guiding students to become thoughtful, compassionate leaders who will uphold these values. Their potential is boundless, and together, we’re preparing them to lead with clarity and purpose in the years ahead. As we always say - Makers make it happen.
In hope, Amy

Thank you to everyone who took their senior pictures this month. We have begun sharing photo albums with families through each individual Maker student's NYCstudent email. If you paid the $20 fee and have not gotten the album, please reach out to Clint. [email protected] for assistance.
**Note that albums are only shared after the sitting fee ($20) is paid. If the fee is a hardship, please reach out to Clint for assistance.
Additionally, the entire class of 2025 is invited on a Senior Fun Day on Friday 11/15 to take a cruise around the city! Lunch will be provided. Please fill out this permission slip so your student can attend!!!

Students have been placed in What I Need classes instead of advisory on Thursdays. They will either receive a class to support in an area of academic challenge or an elective class. Ask your student what their WIN class is to learn more about the kind of support they are receiving!
